About Dr. Boccard

An experienced pedagogue, specializing in keyboard injury prevention, Dr. Boccard has taught piano to children, teenagers and adults for over fifteen years in the U.S. and internationally. On top of maintaining his own private studio, Dr. Boccard is currently on the teaching faculty at UMKC Community Music and Dance Academy and at the Language and Music House in Kansas City.

Dr. Aurélien B. Boccard

An experienced pedagogue, specializing in keyboard injury prevention, Dr. Boccard has taught piano to children, teenagers, and adults for over twenty years in the United States and internationally. Dr. Boccard is currently the owner and director of the Boccard Piano School in Geneva Switzerland.

Dr. Boccard holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance and Master’s in Musicology from UMKC Conservatory where he studied with Dr. Jane Solose. He previously obtained degrees in German, Music Education, and Musicology at the Geneva Conservatory, the University of Geneva, and the Bern Conservatory. He also holds a Masters and Advanced Certificate in Piano Performance from the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville with Jura Margulis. Dr. Boccard studied with many pianists and pedagogues such as Aleksandar Madzar, Bernard Demierre, Margarita Casadevall, John McIntire, Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink, and Christopher Lacy.

As a performer, Dr. Boccard has been an active soloist and collaborator in Europe as well as in the United States. A French native speaker from Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Boccard's love for languages has brought him to work with many singers.  A Skilled accompanist, he played for several opera productions for the Opera Theater in Fayetteville, Arkansas. His most recent performances in Kansas City featured Debussy’s Preludes Book I, a selection of Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano, Chopin’s Fourth Ballade, and Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand. Dr. Boccard has been the recipient of numerous national awards and scholarships and was National Finalist in the 2016 American Prize in Piano Performance. 

Dr. Boccard has been the president of the Kansas City Mu Phi Epsilon Alumni Chapter for 4 years and served on the board of KCMTA as the coordinator of Music Progressions. On top of his activity as a pianist and educator, Dr. Boccard is a Consultant for the Tomatis® Method, a sensorineural program that helps children and adults cope with attention, learning, motor, and language disorders.

In his free time, Dr. Boccard enjoys working out, gardening, traveling, and watching science fiction T.V. shows.
